Installation of Microsoft Windows cumulative update for Windows 10 IoT 1607 fails on HP thin clients
When you try to install a Windows 10 cumulative Update on a HP Thin Client like the T630, you might get an error like
Fehler: 0x800f081e
Das angegebene Paket ist nicht für dieses Abbild gültig.
despite following the instructions from the HP ThinUpdate manual to install the downloaded CAB file with
dism.exe /online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\kb4284880-x64.cab
The reason is that there is one prerequired update missing from the 1607 HP image for those thin clients.
You need to install KB4132216 first before you can install any newer cumulative update.
- Reboot your thin client with disabled write filter
- Go into services and change the start mode of the "Windows Update" service from "disabled" to "manual"
- Open an administrative command prompt
- The ramdisk might be too small to hold the extracted updates, so execute:
- set TEMP=c:\temp
- set TMP=c:\temp
- Install the downloaded KB4132216 MSU to install the missing updates
- Reboot the system if required
- Open a command prompt with administrator's rights and execute:
- set TEMP=c:\temp
- set TMP=c:\temp
- dism.exe /online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\kb4284880-x64.cab
- Reboot
- Set the start mode of the "Windows Update" service to "disabled" and reenable the write filter.
